Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

What does a complete home audio system consist of?

Main components: an amplifier or AV receiver, speakers (front, center, rear, ceiling), a subwoofer for low frequencies and a sound source (network player, turntable, computer). A stereo system needs only an amplifier and two speakers; a home theater requires a 5.1 or 7.1 system with an AV receiver.

What is the difference between a stereo and a home theater system?

A stereo system (2.0 or 2.1) is designed for listening to music: two channels and a full frequency range. A home cinema system (5.1, 7.1, Dolby Atmos) has additional channels for surround sound (a center channel for dialogue, rear channels for effects) so that movies sound natural. Stereo sounds better for music, while home cinema is better for movies.

Where to start when choosing a home audio system?

Start with how you will listen most often: music or movies. The second step is room size and acoustics, which determine the power and size of the speakers. The third is the budget, which is worth splitting so that ~50% goes to the speakers, ~30% to the amplifier and ~20% to the source. If you have any questions, our specialists will help you put together a set that fits your budget.

Is it worth buying an all-in-one (soundbar) or separate components?

A soundbar is convenient, compact and suitable for smaller rooms of up to ~25 m². A separate system (AV receiver + speakers) sounds better, can be expanded in the future and suits larger spaces, but takes up more space and requires more cables. Choose according to your room and how much time you are ready to invest in configuration.

Which brands are best for a home audio system?

Top class: Focal, Primare, NorStone, Pioneer Elite – strong musical quality. Mid-range: Pioneer, Yamaha, Denon – reliable AV receivers and good value for money. The choice depends less on the brand and more on how specific models are matched with each other – we have never seen two identical rooms or two identical tastes.

Do I need a separate amplifier if I buy active speakers?

No. Active speakers have a built-in amplifier and connect directly to the source (a computer, network player, or turntable via a phono preamp). It is a simpler solution that takes up less space. Passive speakers require an external amplifier, but allow you to combine components more freely.
