"Tannoy" is a renowned British manufacturer of audio equipment, with a history dating back to 1926. The company, originally named the "Tulsemere Manufacturing Company", was founded in London by Guy Fountain. "Tannoy" is particularly famous for its contribution to the development of public address systems and high-quality loudspeakers.
The name "Tannoy" originates from the term "tantalum alloy", which was a material used at the beginning of the company's manufacturing. "Tannoy" quickly gained recognition for its innovative dual concentric loudspeaker design, which features a coaxial driver configuration where the high-frequency driver is located in the center of the low-frequency driver. This design aims to create a point source of sound, ensuring more coherent and accurate sound reproduction.
In the 1940s and 1950s, "Tannoy" loudspeakers were widely used in public address systems, theaters, and recording studios. The company's loudspeakers were known for their clear and articulate sound reproduction, making them a popular choice for audio professionals. "Tannoy's" involvement in the public announcement sector was crucial during World War II, when "Tannoy" loudspeakers were used for military communications and broadcasts.
