DESCRIPTION

Possibility of early driver's license reinstatement

Since 2020, it has been possible to regain a driver's license earlier than the set term, if one agrees to drive only vehicles with an installed alcohol interlock (alcolock).

  • Most often, the license revocation period is reduced by half, i.e., to 6 months, with the obligation to drive a car with an installed alcolock for 12 months.
  • After installing an alcolock, there is no need to retake the driving test!

What to do if you receive a protocol?

  • Do not delay - if you have received an administrative offense protocol for driving under the influence (up to 1.5 per mille, ANK Article 422, Part 5) and a case hearing has been scheduled, it is essential to contact the officials specified in the protocol or attend the case hearing. If your request for alcolock installation is not submitted, the officials will impose a penalty according to the current procedure.
  • If a decision to impose a penalty has already been made, there is still a possibility to appeal it within 20 days. A request can be submitted for a lighter penalty than that provided by law. Later, the penalty becomes effective and cannot be changed.

What penalties apply?

Driving vehicles while intoxicated (0.41-1.5 per mille) incurs the following penalties:

  • Fine: 800-1100 €
  • License revocation: 12-18 months.
  • License revocation: 6-12 months (with the use of an alcohol interlock for 12-18 months).
