5a mid-woofers represent state-of-the-art driver technology. The open design cast aluminum baskets provide an ultra-rigid support system, while also acting as an additional heat sink and shorting ring. A high-energy dual shorting ring motor is coupled with a 1.5” copper-clad aluminum wire, Kapton former voice coil, ensuring balanced output efficiency and power handling. An inverted butyl rubber surround and composite spider work together to dampen unwanted vibrations, while maintaining control and linear characteristics. The aluminum cone with butyl dust cap offers neutral sound quality, provided by a paper cone with the precision that only an ultra-rigid cone can provide. This combination achieves wide bandwidth and efficient energy transfer to the air.
