How to Choose a Bluetooth Speaker

When choosing a portable Bluetooth speaker, the four most important parameters are: size, sound power, battery life, and water resistance. For small spaces and travel, a compact speaker with 10-20W power and an 8-12 hour battery is sufficient. For medium-sized spaces at home or outdoors, it's better to choose 30-50W models with a larger battery and deeper bass. For parties or large spaces, 100W+ speakers with LED lighting, a microphone input, and a more aggressive sound are needed.

Water resistance (IPX rating) is essential for outdoor use. IPX4 means resistance to splashing water, IPX7 means the speaker can withstand submersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. If the speaker will be used near a pool, beach, or shower – choose an IPX7 or better model.

Bluetooth version is also important – 5.0 and newer ensure a more stable connection, lower latency, and a greater range (up to 30 meters in open space). Older models (Bluetooth 4.x) may struggle with a newer iPhone or Android phone.

Such speakers often have wheels and a telescopic handle for easy transport.

For outdoor or pool use, IP67 or better water resistance is mandatory. For picnic or beach speakers, UV resistance is also important – low-quality plastics fade or become brittle after several seasons in the sun.
